BREATHTAKING MASTERPIECE A true treasure that leaves me in awe… Personal Collection NFS Recovered in 2021 Coronel Murta tourmaline, sourced from regions like Morro Redondo and Barra do Salinas in Minas Gerais, Brazil, is celebrated for its exceptionally clear, multicolored elbaite crystals, often featuring vibrant green, pink, and magenta hues. These highly sought-after, gemmy specimens gained popularity in the 1990s and frequently exhibit complex, tapered terminations and distinct color zoning. Key Aspects of Coronel Murta Tourmaline: Characteristics: Renowned for high clarity, glassy luster, and intense pleochroism (changing color when rotated 90 degrees). Color & Zoning: Often found as bicolor or polychrome, with combinations of green-to-pink, or deep red-purple (rubellite) caps on lighter, gemmy bodies. Origins: Major localities include the Morro Redondo mine (notable for 1990s production), Barra do Salinas, and Ouro Fino pegmatite. Availability: Although many famous pockets (like the “Lemon Tree”) were mined in the 1990s, specimens still occasionally appear on the market from old collections. Mineralogy: Primarily belongs to the elbaite group, a lithium-rich tourmaline.
